Casting Pearls Before Swine
The other day while eating at a restaurant, a guy was crying out loud (opposite of 'Lol'馃槀) as he narrated an incident to an elderly woman who was seated in front of him.
I have never seen a man cry that loud in my life. He just couldn't hold back.
My guess is that the woman that sat before him must have been his mother. He called her Mummii (not Mummy 馃槀) many times.
He narrated how he is giving his all (time, ideas and resource) to a lady he intends to marry but still she keeps hurting him emotionally with words and deeds.
I was seated not too far and his voice was loud, before you call me amebo馃槈
When the guy was done narrating to his mother, his mother brought out her handkerchief, wiped his tears and ordered for two chilled bottles of malt from the waiter, one for herself and for her son.
Some minutes later, seeing that he was calm, she started talking.
Let me tell you a story. Many years ago, two kids in an African country were having fun by throwing stones at each other.
You know this game where one person is the HUNTER and the other person is the HUNTED per time. It's turn by turn.
The way the hunter hunted was by throwing stones. At the count of three, the hunted will run so fast, the hunter will throw his stone with the intention of hitting the hunted, If the stone thrown touches the hunted, it's one point to the hunter.
Then, the hunter becomes the hunted and the cycle continues.
As the kids played this game, it got to a point, where the score was 7-6.
The boy with the highest point said he was done playing. The other felt cheated since he had just one more strike to match the score.
It ensued into argument, exchange of words and then they both started fighting. Some white men in passing, ran towards the kids. They asked the kids to explain the reason for their fight. They both narrated their sides.
After counseling them against fighting, to ensure that they don't continue that game for that day, the white men asked them to drop the stones they were holding and be on their way home immediately.
They gave the kids 2 stick sweets each and got them to hug themselves.馃榿
The white men looked at stones that the kids dropped and discovered that the stones these kids were playing games with were 'Diamonds'.
They called the kids back and gave them more stick sweets馃槀.
These kids putting on pants without clothes were playing games with a resource that could have rewritten the history of their lives forever.
This guy's mother ended her story by saying:
'Stop casting Pearls Before Swine. You are only a King in the eyes of a Queen'.
Powerful, shey?馃敟
Jesus used this expression in the bible.
To cast pearl before swine means to present something valuable to a person who doesn't have the eye to see what he has and then appreciate it accordingly.
Since he/she/they can't see how incredible you are or what you are bringing to the table is, he/she/they will not appreciate you or what you are bringing to the table is.
I pray that you reading this aren't the one who is not seeing how incredible the gift (person or thing) you have is.
Usually we wait till we lose people or things before we begin to miss what we once had for free.
To those casting Pearls Before Swine, you may need to stop hurting yourself. This is my advice, you will need to keep your pearls and only cast your pearls to those who truly desire and appreciate your pearls anything less will cause you pain, I assure you.
