Obi - The Sixth
After my TEDx speech in Ondo last Saturday, I had to return to Lagos that same day as I had a dinner event I was billed to serve as the MC the next day.
During the dinner event, I announced that we were in a time to give awards to some persons who have distinguished themselves in a way needs to be appreciated specially.
I also mentioned that 6 awards will be given that night.
After the presentation of the 5th award, it was the turn of the ‘Best Teenager Of The Year’ Award.
At the point of trying to call the name of the recipient, I created suspense馃槄 before eventually mentioning the name of the recipient.
Chioma Obi (actual name withheld)!!馃檶
Everyone screamed 馃拑馃徎馃拑馃徎馃榿
The young lady came out happily and got her award.馃榿
On her way back to seat, I noticed she hugged a woman馃珎 and then I asked ‘Who is that?’ and she yelled ‘ She is my Mum’.
Wow! I immediately requested that they both step forward and take a picture with the award.
I saw the joy on the face of her mother.馃槃
I then asked the mother to tell everyone present how happy she feels seeing that her daughter just won an award.
The response shook all of us.馃槯
She said, ‘I am not totally surprised to see my daughter win this award’.
She went further to say ‘Even in her (secondary) school, she is always getting one award or the other.
She ended by saying ‘She is a good girl’.馃グ
In a world where it's difficult to know who to trust, people will have no other choice but to trust you if they have noticed that you:
1. Keep to your words
2. Stick to the plan and flexible where necessary
3. Give your best
4. Are kind.
